First, I wanted to thank Carla at Bandit Creek Books. When the invitation first went out asking for authors to post on her site, I jumped at the chance. So thanks again, Carla!
When I was told the theme this month on Bandit Creek was secrets and that I should talk about some of my own, I grew nervous. My life is pretty much an open book. There aren’t a lot of dusty skeletons rattling around in my closet (just a lot of dust). But after talking to some close friends who mentioned that I keep things close to the chest, I started rethinking about what secrets are and how they mean different things to different people.
I don’t keep secrets because I think they’d have an earth-shattering effect on any one. I keep them because no one cares about what goes on inside the mind of a neurotic writer. My deep shameful secrets like—what if I can’t write, what if I suck, what if my first book being published was a fluke—only get glazed looks from family members and, if I am lucky, a pat on my head. I realized the dark things we carry around in our head are often only a big deal to us. No one else cares.
The theme of secret pasts that haunt my heroes and heroines run through many of my books. My heroine from DARK FUTURE, Kris, is plagued by a deep shame that affects her life more than she wants to admit. It colors her choices when dealing with life and death situations and, even more importantly, how she deals with the hero, ConRad.
ConRad has his own past to overcome. On his chest is a large S branded into his skin. How did it get there? Who put it there and why? All these questions are answered, but we also see how differently ConRad deals with his secrets. Instead, of letting someone else’s cruelty overshadow his life, he takes the brand and makes it a part of himself—something no longer shameful, but a badge of honor.
Thank you so much for allowing me to share a bit about my debut novel. I hope readers are as interested to find out Kris and ConRad’s secrets as I was when I wrote the book.
I spend a lot of time sitting by myself in front of my computer and love to chat with readers. I can be found on Facebook, Twitter @kckleinbooks, and my website, where readers can check out my new project, HOTTER ON THE EDGE, a sci-fi romance anthology.
Oh, I guess I do have one really big secret I would love to share. I just found out I sold my second book, a western romance, to Kensington with a tentative release date of October 2012. Now, those are the type of secrets I don’t mind sharing.
About DARK FUTURE:
Awakened in the middle of the night by a future version of herself, Kris Davenport is given a mission: go forward in time to save the world—and His life. Of course, her future self doesn’t tell her who he is, just sends her into an abyss and straight into an alien invasion.
He turns out to be ConRad Smith, the callous, untrusting Commander of Earth’s army and the world’s last defense. There’s only one way to know for sure if this strange woman is an alien spy—slice her throat. Except, he didn’t anticipate the heat he would feel as he interrogates the hot-tempered, warm-blooded woman. For a man whose sole focus has been survival, she’s more temptation than he can handle. But a world on the brink of destruction leaves no room for love…and time is running out.
Buy DARK FUTURE as an Amazon e-book, an Amazon print book, at Avon Impulse, or at Barnes & Noble.
KC will give away a copy of her book DARK FUTURE to a lucky commenter!

Wow! Love the cover. I’m off to look it up on my Kindle.
Congratulations KC on your upcoming release of your Western romance. That’s a pretty good secret to share. I don’t like keeping secrets in real life, but in some stories I don’t mind them. They can add really good suspense and gives the characters the opportunity to set wrongs to right.
P.S. I already have Dark Future
Another sale, fantastic! That’s definitely not something to keep close to your chest. Your debut novel sounds really exciting and I’m off to check it out right now.
Now THAT is a secret to share
Congrats! Thanks for letting us celebrate the good news with you!

Congratulations on the sale of another book, KC. I love those kinds of secrets!
Congrats on the new deal! Exciting news
I know exactly what you mean about the secrets most (if not all) writers share. THat’s why I’m so glad to be part of a writing group that lets me divulge those horrid secrets in a safe and supportive environment. Don’t know what I’d do without that.
I’m intrigued by Kris and ConRad!
Congrats on the new release. well done.
Congrats, KC, on your debut novel…love the synopsis! Also congrats on your next novel. Sounds like the voices in your head that are telling you aren’t good are lying!

KC! Awesome news on the sale to Kensington! Already bought DARK FUTURE for my brand new Kindle Touch and it’s next on my TBR list. Okay, back to keeping secrets. I think we all have a few but whether we let them out or not is very much like a scale of their importance in our lives. The deepest, darkest ones never see the light of day and we hope and pray they stay that way. Of course, I’m talking about my current weight…my new and very expensive treadmill gathering dust in my bedroom. Yeah, sure. that’s what I’m talking about. Uh-huh. Congratulations again on the second sale. Lalala!!!
Congratulations on that fabulous secret! I love the premise behind your book – so intriguing!!
