DO YOU BELIEVE?
Okay, I have a secret to confess. To some people it may not come as a surprise, to others who know me differently, it might be a big shocker. Are you ready? Here it is…
I believe in psychic abilities.
Do I think it’s a gift from some otherworldly entity? Nope. I am of the belief that it is part of the brain, an ability. And some people have accessed it while most of us haven’t and never will. Women’s intuition I believe is part of it. That niggling doubt or feeling in the pit of the stomach. That’s a message that something is wrong. As women we should always listen to it. But what I’m talking about right now is psychic ability like fortune-telling and past readings and touch empathy.
Once, I went to one of those psychic fairs. I wasn’t expecting much. Just some parlor tricks, someone telling me some vague details about my future and my past. But I ended up getting a reading from a young girl that made me believe. It was actually quite by accident that I ended up at her table. I hadn’t planned on going to that corner of the big room, but my shoelace came untied and I stopped, bent down to tie it and something caught my eye. So I moseyed on up to this unadorned, plain-looking table, and started to flip through a photo album that was there.
There were pictures of a young girl from baby to maybe nineteen, twenty and she was with various people, I assumed her friends and family. Then I alighted on a specific picture. I looked and looked, and realized I knew the woman in the photo. Her name was Fran and I had worked with her for years, until she just up and quit and I never saw her again. I’d always liked Fran. Then this young girl came over and tapped the photo and said, “That’s my mom.”
So I ended up at a small table with this young girl and she was going to read my cards. She told me details about my upcoming wedding, (I’d just recently got engaged, and wasn’t wearing a ring), including the day we had picked to get married. She also told me there would be strife in our marriage, and what it would be about (ended up being true, and my marriage ended), she also told me I would suffer for my art, but eventually I would be very successful and happy. (still working on that.) Needless to say, she made me a believer.
My belief is probably why I had a great time creating a psychic character for my Bandit Creek book. In LOST, Kirsten Morgan can read objects, she can find people, people that have gone missing, and/or are dead. The dead speak to her. She hates every minute of it, but she knows she has a gift and has to use it to help people. Even if everyone around her doesn’t believe in her.
Do you believe in something that other people think is crazy, or strange or different? Confess it here, and have a chance to win any book in my backlist.
* The draw has been made. The winner is Catherine! *
Would love to read Lost. It sounds awesome. Yes, I see, sense, and smell people from the author side. Yes I know this sounds weird, but I have been able to since my childhood. Mostly, my relatives. Once, however, in my town, we had a Deputy killed and I saw the hold thing at work…I thought at the time it was my nephrew, who was also a Deputy, but unfortunately it was a one of my co-workers husband and his friend. The friend was the one killed….So change….
So,yes I believe in the “psychic” world, sometimes. I can only attest to me…My grandson can also sense things, see ghosts from bygone years.

I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about whether that stuff is “real” or not…but I had a dream once when I was about 13 about my boyfriend kissing another girl. And the next night it happened. Was I psychic, or just tuned into the attraction my “friends” had going on…I don’t know, but I’ve never discounted that stuff. The more we learn about physics, the more possible it seems that the space-time continuum has a few bubbles.
I definitely believe that there are more things out there than those we can see, feel or prove through scientific means… Heck, my family has had more experiences than I can recount and they’ve all served to make a believer out of me! It’s also why I’m always interested to see how authors will write about that, and I loved how you approached it in Lost. Great story, and Kirsten was such an intriguing character!
Well…I’ve always thought my husband was the sexiest man alive…with his cute balding pate and adorable round belly. Am I crazy? Or crazy in love?
I had my palm read years ago, when I was first married. The fellow peered over it for a moment and said, “You divorced?” I said No. “Separated,” he asked. No. “You will be,” he concluded. Then he went on to tell me that my currently relationship would be my shortest.
Hubby and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary. And we were together 7 years before that. Guess I’m gonna live for a very long time.
Love your books, Vivi.
Donna-woo!
Very cool story, Vivi.
One year a SAIT classmate, her friend and I went to a psychic way up in the north. We got lost. Since I’m such a smart ass, I said “If she’s good, she knows we’re lost.” Wish I remembered what she said.
But I do believe there’s more out there then we’ll ever understand. In fact, I know it.
I believe in ghosts and physics/fortune tellers. I’ve never encountered ghosts before but I just believe in their existence. I know animals, such as dogs and cats with deeper senses do “see” them and it’s not to hard for me to think that some humans can have that gift as well.
I went to a psychic fair once and it was for the most part a pile of hooey, Except I was separated at the time and she said it wasn’t over, that there was more to that relationship still. I shook my head, adamant, but eight months later my husband and I got back together and we’ve been together ever since, even having another daughter.
the best one was done at a private home. At first I thought she was a con because she asked if I had 3 kids. I said no. She asked if I’d had 3 pregnancies, I said no. then she asked if my hubby had 3 kids and I said, not that I know of! I still only have 2 kids but she kept seeing me with 3.
Later in the same reading, she had me in tears. She talked about my mom, who’d passed away. How I was mad at her, how I blamed her for not being there for me and how she was sorry, how it’s ok that I’m mad at her cause she knows she couldn’t be with me at that time, that someone else needed her more. that was bang on. My brother was going through tough stuff at the time and he needed her more.
How can that not be true? She couldn’t have known any of that. So, yes, I believe.
Wow Michelle. That is quite a reading.
I believe that there must be life, sentient life, on other planets. Why would ours be the only planet in the universe where intelligent life developed? I don’t believe in ghosts or that aliens (or vampires or werewolves) live among us. I do believe that we use only a small portion of our brain’s capability and that it would not be entirely outside the realm of possibility for individuals to have or develop significant brain-based abilities. I admit to being a practical pragmatist who believes in facts and evidence and research.
I believe that people act according to their astrological signs…the best baby book I ever read was one about the baby’s birth date and astrological temperament. So true! Your book sounds great!
Vivi, I loved your psychic heroine in LOST!
I’ve always wanted to go to a reading but have never taken the time. I definitely believe we all have the ability — especially women with their intuition — and some people’s abilities are stronger than others.
Lovely post. Thanks!
Of course I believe in psychic abilities. I have always been attracted for lack of a better word, to all things thought of as supernatural and untouchable. But what really cinched it for me was a chance psychic’s reading. too long to go into–but needless to say, it has all happened. And every word was spoken to me over the phone. She knew the initials of the man I would meet, fall in love with, where we would move, our child that would be born, etc. all of these things I wrote down and tucked away in case there was ever any question. After the reading, I forgot for awhile. Until I met a man. After a few weeks of getting to know each other I finally asked him his middle initial. Yep–the psychic guessed it. Here we are almost 13 yrs later. However, I can no longer find the psychic by phone number or name. I just wanted to tell her how right she was. But I’m sure she already knows that
On the subject of other things I believe in….Faeries. Yes, I do believe they are out there. Some causing mischief, others bringing smiles. And many, many other things most folks do not believe in. Who am I to be a skeptic when obviously so many things have existed for millions of years whether we believe in them or not?
I enjoyed your story Vivi!! Thank you for sharing
Personally, I believe everyone has a sixth sense but only a few of us learn or have the ability to utilize it.

I’ve never had a reading or been to a psychic fair. I’m not going to say it’s not there. I have a family member who was diagnosed with schizo affective disorder. He’s had delusions since age 12. That’s why I don’t spend much time on the psychic, ghosts, etc.
yes i believe and i wish i had powers like that>>
I believe in magic and psychics and Santa Claus. I wouldn’t want to have crazy special powers. Too much trouble. jepebATverizonDOTnet
I believe some people have psychic abilities and that there are some things that we’ll never fully understand despite sound reason, facts, and science.
Hey Vivi,
Thanks for sharing – any chance you can find this girl again? I’m thinking a lot of us would like a hint of what’s to come too. LOL
Yeah, the human mind is a powerful thing.
Great post, Vivi! I totally believe. Your experience is very interesting. I love hearing stories about readings and things like that. I used to watch Clairvoyant Kim (from Calgary) on Access every Sunday night. A few years ago I had a reading from her myself. There were just things she said that were so specific and bang on, it was uncanny. At the same time, some of the other things haven’t happened or didn’t resonate as much. Hmmm…
Great post! I do believe there’s is something more out there in the universe in terms of life than just us. Some other galaxy full of people that are wondering the same things we wonder. It seems the more the scientists dig the more they find out how humungous the universe is. To have it just be us as the only living creatures would just be sad and a waste of space:)

I believe in psychic abilities and much, much more. This world is full of mystery and the human brain is so complex that science hasn’t even begun to unraveling it.
WOO HOO! I love winning books! Thanks for the chance with these giveaways.
