Hi, I’m Carla Roma and welcome to Bandit Creek, a small town with a mountain of secrets. Picture this: I’m at some club that I can’t even remember the name of and there’s a woman in the middle of the room, laughing and talking. She stands out partly because she’s sporting this wicked red hair but more because of her energy and presence. Everyone wants to talk to her, including me. That was the first time I met Vivi Anna. Then I read her Valorian Chronicles and I was blown away because these fabulous books bring together two of my very favorite things – vampires and forensics. I love the juxtaposition of the myth with the science. It was only a matter of time before Vivi and I decided to collaborate and together with a bunch of our friends, Bandit Creek was the inevitable outcome.
Today I am thrilled to talk to her about her book, LOST, the first in the Bandit Creek series.
Carla: Welcome Vivi. Thanks for joining me, I know how busy you’ve been lately what with all the film and TV projects you’re working on.
Vivi: For you Carla, anything. Well, just about anything.
Carla: Ha! Let’s start off by telling our readers how this Bandit Creek project came together.
Vivi: Well, it was magic really. One of those things that starts as a glimmer of an idea, then explodes into something spectacular by the sheer force of creativity of the people involved. I was talking about self-publishing and how one of the great things about is, that an author can work with any other author they wanted to. We were constricted by publishing houses or the ability to put an idea together that you could sell to one of the big publishers. I said that I could work with anyone I wanted, I could even collaborate with all of you. And that’s when it happened. I could see the spark in people’s eyes…and it went from there. It was one of my most amazing moments I’ve ever encountered.
Carla: Yup, it was. There was more creative energy in that room than I’ve ever experienced.
Carla: Okay, so now let’s talk about your book LOST. It’s the lead story, yes?
Vivi: Yes. We decided as a group that because of my experience with self-publishing and the fact that I am a fairly fast writer, that it would be best to put out my story first. To set the stage sort of speak.
Carla: LOST is a bit of a departure for you, isn’t it? There isn’t a vampire, lycan, fae, or demon in sight.
Vivi: Yeah, LOST ended up being a mystery with a bit of paranormal. My lead protagonist has psychic abilities.
Carla: She can communicate with the dead, right?
Vivi: Not communicate per se, she can hear them. But she can’t necessarily speak to them. She’s not a medium. She also has the ability to find missing things, or things that are hiding. She uses these abilities to find missing people, and/or the dead.
Carla: I get chills just thinking about it. Can you tell us a little more about Kirsten Morgan? Why hasn’t she been back to Bandit Creek, her childhood home, in so long?
Vivi: Because of her father, the Sheriff. He’s never really believed in her abilities. She thinks he blames her for the missing Baker boy fiasco. And blames her for her mother’s death.
Carla: Oh, I have to know about Mr. Tall, Dark and Gorgeous, Adam Medicine Crow.
Vivi: Adam is one of those men who you can’t not like. He’s charming, sexy, and loves being the protector. He’d just as easily help an elderly woman across the street with her shopping bags, and flirt with her at the same time, making her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. He and Kirsten have history. Let’s leave it at that.
Carla: One thing I thought was special about this series was that it is a mixture of genres. Not just paranormal, or mysteries, or erotic romances, but a mixture of everything.
Vivi: Yes we decided as a group to experiment with that. We didn’t want to be limiting to our authors. Some authors write mainly historicals, others like YA. So we thought why not just open it up and allow the author to explore whatever type of story they wanted to write. Some of the stories are romances, others are not. Some are spicy, others have no sex in them at all. But we did make sure that we’ve labeled them as such, so the reader knows what they are buying.
Carla: That’s fantastic. Is there anything else you’d like to share before I let you go and actually do some work?
Vivi: I’d just like to say, I hope that readers will enjoy this series. That there will be something for everyone. And because of the low prices, I hope that readers will try something new. Thanks.
Carla: Thank you Vivi for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk with me today about this exciting new series.
